Archive for accidents

My family just got a new puppy. She is a German Sheppard/Lab mix. She is 10 weeks old and we have had her about 2 weeks. I know she is still young, but she is still having accidents in the house. How long does it take to potty train a puppy and does anyone have any tips they can share?

So…. I was out almost all day Sunday with friends & when I came home there was a new addition to my family! My husband had been talking about this for a few months, but I didn’t realize how serious he was until I saw the cute little puppy napping in the carrier on the kitchen floor!
Surprise!!!!
I didn’t know what to think, but I fell instantly in love!
Now I told him before, when he was talking about getting a dog, that it would be his & my son’s responsibility… & he agreed "Oh, yes.. you won’t have to worry about it!" But guess who is home most of the day…. that’s right—Me! I know nothing about potty training a dog, etc. & there have already been a few accidents. The place he bought the puppy from did, however, provide us with some handouts & info.
Right now the puppy is confined to the kitchen until he is house-broken. We have paper on the floor, & he has all the essentials. I take him outside about every 2 hours to try to get him to ‘go’.
(to be continued….)
Now I am a little worried about how the four cats in my house are going to handle the adjustment. My one, Kayla, doesn’t seem to be bothered by the puppy, & has been in the kitchen several times, looked at it, & walked away. The others are keeping their distance. I put one of the litter boxes in the other end of the house , just incase the cats get too scared to go to the back room(which is past the kitchen) to use it.
I could use some suggestions…..
Also, we are working on a name. There is a pic & description of the puppy on my 360 page, if anyone cares to check it out & leave some ideas. You may leave a comment on my blog or here.

Puppy Potty Training Issues!!!?

Posted by: Admin | Comments (2)

Okay so I adopted a Shar-Pei/Black Lab mix about 2 months ago at 10 weeks (making him 4 1/2 months old) and immediately began working on potty training but he’s just not catching on! I chose crate training simply due to it’s seemingly high success rates so he started with a small crate when he was small, and as he grew was upgraded to bigger crates. He basically has room to lie down, get up and turn around (as is recommended by most trainers). He is in the crate during the night but the rest of the time someone is home with him. He is out for hours at a time and we let him out every 20 minutes but he refuses to be alone! If he’s let out in the fenced yard or on his tie out he whines at the door to be let in before he even potties. So we end up sitting with him but ignoring him until he goes potty or #2. The thing that totally confuses me is that he’ll be let out, go to the bathroom (and have plenty of time to go) and then come in the house and look right at us and pee or poop on the floor. We correct him while he’s still in the process of going by telling him "no" and then placing him outside. He also receives praise when he goes outside, and he knows what "outside?" means (he’ll run to the door and wait) but he’s just not getting it. Now my room mate is getting frustrated because the carpets are being messed on and he’s still not getting it. Any help is appreciated!!!!!!!!!

Puppy Training??

Posted by: Admin | Comments (4)

I was wondering how long you should crate train a puppy? I have had mine for 2 1/2 months and he is potty trained and has not had any accidents in 2 months now. He still sleeps in his cage at night and I was thinking about letting him out tonight to see how he does. I know he wont use the bathroom in the house because he goes to the door and scratchs but Im wondering if he will hold it all night since he’s out of his cage. Normally he will go to bed at 10pm in his cage and I will walk him at 7am when my husband leaves for work. He does really well with this. I am just worried that he will be scratching tonight if I let him out of the cage. What do you think? is it time for him to come out?

Hello I have a King Charles puppy who is 12 weeks old. We got her at 10 weeks, I am trying to crate train her instead of using the newspaper method. I am not having much luck, I am constantly taking her outside but she still has lots of accidents indoors. Maybe I am expecting miracles but wondering should I be doing something else. Thanks.
